Welcome to My Grateful Gut.
Join me as I chronicle my efforts to calm my fussy gut and improve my health without comprising on flavour! I’ll share with you the recipes I’ve developed, as well as other techniques I’ve collected. Since 2010, I’ve been 100% gluten and dairy free, so all my recipes are free from gluten and dairy. This diet doesn’t work for everyone, we’re all different after all. But I hope you’ll find some recipes that you fall in love with and that make your gut happy too!
As well as living with autism, I’ve spent years battling eczema, inflammation, back pain, stomach troubles, mood swings, bloating, and exhaustion. When I started this journey, I didn’t realise how many of my issues were caused by my diet and an unhappy gut.

In 2010 I visited a nutritionist for the first time, and she recommended I cut out gluten and dairy, in case I was suffering from food intolerances. Within a couple of weeks, my back pain and stomach troubles vanished. My husband pointed out another unexpected benefit saying it was like I’d had “a personality transplant”. Unbeknown to me, dairy seemed to have been aggravating my autism, and cutting it out of my diet lifted a huge weight from my shoulders.

The internet is flooded with excellent gluten free recipes, but it’s more difficult to find recipes that are both gluten and dairy free. I also try to avoid processed foods as these usually upset my gut, giving me bad skin or an uncomfortable belly. Many of the gluten free recipes I’ve found contain gluten free bread, gluten free pasta, or other gluten free alternatives, many of which are heavily processed and contain lots of sugar, salt and other additives. These alternatives aren’t for me. What I really want is whole food recipes that are gluten and dairy free and taste good enough to please my gluten and dairy loving husband.
So here we are. When I couldn’t find the whole food recipes I needed, I started to create my own. These recipes are tried and tested on my family and friends. As my nephew says “your food still tastes really good even though it’s really healthy”. I hope you find these recipes exceed your expectations and are loved by your friends and family too!
